Jaccard, Chairperson ) F.C. Leighton, Commissioner; and ) July 28, 1993 E. Sleath, Commissioner ) WHEREAS: A. Commission Order No. G-3-93 granted the City of Nelson (the "City") a general interim rate increase of 4.5 percent effective January 1, 1993 as specified in the City of Nelson Electrical Utility Regulatory Amendment By-Law No. 2540, 1993 ("By-Law 2540"); and B. The City applied on July 15, 1993 for Commission approval of the City of Nelson Electrical Utility Regulatory Amendment By-Law No. 2583, 1993 ("By-Law 2583") applicable to electric service rendered by the City in its service area and for firming of By-Law 2540; and C. The amendments specified in By-Law 2583 are to permit the City to increase all customer rates by 1.5 percent effective August 1, 1993, in order to recover increased electricity charges from its supplier, West Kootenay Power Ltd., that were approved by Commission Order No. G-47-93 effective July 1, 1993; and D. The By-Laws maintain the rate differential approved by Commission Decision and Order No. G-76-83 dated October 24, 1983; and E. The Commission has reviewed the Application and supporting material and finds that the proposed increase in electricity rates contained in By-Law 2583 and firming of By-Law 2540 are necessary and in the public interest. NOW THEREFORE the Commission orders as follows: 1. The Commission accepts for filing, effective August 1, 1993, the Corporation of the City of Nelson Electrical Utility Regulatory Amendment By-Law No. 2583, 1993 which incorporates the firmed general interim rate increase of 4.5 percent and a further general increase of 1.5 percent over existing rates to all customers. 2. The City, by way of Customer Notice, is to inform customers of the general rate increase and its effect on monthly bills along with the reasons for the increased rates.
